I’d like to share a few tips and some truths to help you and your practice partner make the most of your piano journey this term.
The assignments this week have been intentionally kept light, with the goal of building a strong foundation from the very start.
Even simple assignments can feel easy, but the real challenge is building the habit of practicing daily. Scales and short pieces only bring results when approached consistently, which depends more on discipline than technical skill. Establishing a daily routine—sitting at the keyboard at a set time, focusing with intention, and avoiding distractions—takes commitment, but over time, it transforms practice from a task into a natural rhythm that fosters growth and artistry.
Consistency is the key (pun intended!). One or two days of practice—or cramming just before a lesson—won’t produce the same results as steady, thoughtful effort.
Here are some tips to keep in mind:
Break longer pieces into smaller sections and practice them one at a time.
Use a timer to limit the time you spend on each song.
Take short breaks during intense practice sessions.
Be patient with yourself and your practice partner—progress takes time.
I’m excited to see your progress this term. If you have any questions or need guidance, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Bests,
-Ken
